Compensation: $25 an hour

Job Summary

PPG has partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania to introduce students to careers in artificial intelligence (AI) and the fields of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through the development of the AI Pathways Institute (AIPI). AIPI is an intensive, interactive, hands-on and fun program that seeks to inspire the tech leaders and innovators of tomorrow. We do this by supporting the study of computer science, artificial intelligence, robotics, engineering and other closely related subjects by connecting youth to project based learning, mentorship/career exposure and connections to higher-education and industry. 

This role as lead co-instructor will take place in a classroom setting at one of our clubhouses. As a teacher, you will teach the AIPI curriculum to students and guide them through the three weeks of class with a culminating competition.

Responsibilities

  • Be available for four weeks, including one week of training, with three weeks of teaching.
  • Read the entire instructor manual to get acquainted with the course material prior to the camp.
  • Prepare classroom materials prior to the beginning of class each day.
  • Build relationships with the teens to help maintain proper classroom management.
  • Be prepared to use various classroom management techniques to meet the needs of your students.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Teach students lessons that involve computer programming specific to robotics, coding, and AI.
  • Mentor and help students through any questions they may have as you move through the curriculum.
  • Guide students as they are tasked with using AI to identify, design and develop a prototype to solve a community problem.
  • Observe and evaluate student's assignments and performance.
  • Be responsible for the safety and well being of the students while they are in your classroom and at the clubhouse for the hours of the program.
  • Track student progress throughout the three weeks to ensure they will have completed the course work. 
  • Attend and participate in a virtual teacher meeting at the end of each teaching day.

Requirements

  • Must be a highschool graduate with an understanding of Computer Science, AI, and Robotics
  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Education or Computer Science is a plus.
  • Classroom teaching experience is a plus.
  • Strong time management, organization, and project prioritization skills are a must
  • Proficient in Google Suite.
  • The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs function require the following physical demands: lifting & carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing, any/or pulling, climbing to include steps, balancing, stooping, standing, sitting, kneeling, crawling, crouching, and signification fine fingered dexterity. Ability to tolerate environmental conditions: air conditioning, heat, dust fumes, noise, close quarters, etc.
  • Perform all additional duties and tasks assigned by leadership/supervisors. 
 

Onboarding Requirements

CPR, Pediatric First Aid, Child Abuse, Criminal History, FBI clearance, NSOR certificate, PA Disclosure and Mandated Reporter certification, Fire Safety, Health Assessment, TB Test and other mandatory required onboarding trainings prior to teaching. Clearances and training are compensated by BGWPA.
