Job Summary
The Career Development Coordinator will be responsible for youth development through career
exposure and preparation; support the career development program/curriculum across five teen
locations in Allegheny County; support internships, certifications and understands the needs and
demographics of under-served communities. This position reports to the Manager of Career
Development.
Responsibilities
● Support development of Career Works High (including summer) program curriculum to include
lesson development, developing a platform for ease of use across multiple locations (Google
Classroom) and age-progression lessons/programming
● On-site (and virtual as needed) program coordination, supervision of teens, program staff
support, and implementation at BGCWPA locations
● Support the research, design, and carry-out programming focused on academic remediation
(through the use of adaptive software), real-world projects, direct instruction, field trips and site
visits, job shadowing, professional networking opportunities and internships that help youth build
career awareness and put them on pathways to success.
● Support partnerships that will enhance programming opportunities
● Conduct activities designed to create awareness of careers and career potential.
● Coordinate attainment of recruitment and enrollment goals, family engagement and community
outreach to meet the goals of the Career Works High (including summer) Program track
● Support case file management and application processes
● Support coordination of site-visits, field trips, and presentations by professional speakers to
provide well-rounded exposure to various career paths
● Support work-based learning experiences through individualized Career Coaching, programmatic
planning, and lesson implementation
● Maintain current knowledge of pertinent rules and regulations affecting career and technical
education, including awareness of career clusters
● Work to identify and define local job opportunities and support youth in gaining access to and
confidently pursuing such employment opportunities
● Carry out plans and policies authorized by the Manager and/or Director of Career Development
or designee
● Interact with parents, outside agencies, businesses and community to provide support and
assistance to students and programmatic ventures.
● Attend Staff trainings based on availability and program necessity
● Ensure the safety of all students
● Assist with operational management as needed
● Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
● A commitment to the mission and programs of BGCWPA
● Associates or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Counseling, Education, or a related field
OR two years of experience in Human Services, Counseling, Career Development or Education
● Minimum of one year experience in in some combination of youth development, K-12, human
performance enhancement, curriculum design, corporate responsibility, social work, public
administration
● Knowledge of adult development and positive youth development with an ability to design
learning strategies and programs to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities in the areas of youth
development, leadership development, management, and organizational effectiveness
● Serve as a role model and representative of BGCWPA, consistently demonstrating our core
values
● Must be available to work evenings and the occasional weekend
● Outstanding presentation and interpersonal skills both oral and written
● An ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
● Must have a high level of confidentiality and professional integrity
● 3 letters of Reference
● Strong time management, organization, and project prioritization skills are a must
● Proficient in Google Suite.
● The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs function require the following physical
demands: lifting & carrying up to 50 pounds, pushing, any/or pulling, climbing to include steps,
balancing, stooping, standing, sitting, kneeling, crawling, crouching, and signification fine
fingered dexterity.
● Perform all additional duties and tasks assigned by leadership/supervisors.
Certifications and Clearances
BGCPWA’s highest priority is the safety of the youth we serve. CPR, Pediatric First Aid, Child Abuse
Prevention, Criminal History, FBI Clearance, NSOR Certificate, PA Disclosure, PA Staff Health
Assessment, TB Test, and Mandated Reporter certification required upon hire or within 6 months.
