AmeriCorps Members serve our community while gaining experience working with youth. The members will provide small group tutoring and mentoring support. The members will utilize BGCA nationally recognized programs and evidence-based curriculums to create learning opportunities for our youth participants. These programs build skills related to leadership, service learning, character building, STEAM, gross motor, literacy and workforce readiness. AmeriCorps members individualize support to meet the needs of all youth that we serve.

Responsibilities
  • Implement educational programs covering Literacy, STEAM, Mentoring, and Athletics
  • Participate in professional development opportunities throughout the program
  • Foster an environment that encourages creativity and exploration
  • Assist with annual youth evaluations
  • Promote and stimulate membership in the Clubhouse through programs, services, and outreach activities
  • Offer input regarding department programs, in partnership with the approval of the Program Manager
  • Observe and report any maintenance and operational concerns of the department’s physical property, always ensuring Club member safety to the Clubhouse Director
  • Opportunity to take on additional professional development trainings
Requirements/Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school graduate, GED recipient, or working towards attaining during the term of service
  • US Citizenship or permanent residency status (Green Card)
  • At least one year of experience working with children
  • The ability to create strong relationships with youth in a short period of time
  • An interest in a variety of youth programs including technology, art, sports, STEM, mentoring, and recreation
  • Must complete a health physical and TB test
  • 3 letters of reference upon selection
  • Clearances Act 33, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR letter. Complete the National Service Criminal History Check (Possible additional clearances)
  • Mandated Reporter Certification within 30 days of hire
  • CPR and Pediatric First Aid training to be completed during orientation
Service Term Requirements
  • Must participate in AmeriCorps Week activities and local service projects/events
  • Must participate in a week-long orientation/training prior to term start
  • Must attend local service and/or volunteer opportunities throughout the term   
Additional Information About AmeriCorps Service
  • Upon successful completion of your term of service and enrolling in the National Service Trust, you will gain eligibility to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. Award can be used to repay qualified student loans and/or pay current or future (within 7 years) educational expenses at eligible institutions of higher education and training programs
  • As an AmeriCorps member, you may be eligible for forbearance on your qualified student loans during your term of service
  • Upon service completion, receive access to AmeriCorps Alumni benefits and resources

What are the hours?
This is a part-time opportunity where members can serve 12-32 hours per week, depending on the service term you choose. Additionally, hours may vary depending on the club site weekly program schedule.
Is this a job?
As an AmeriCorps service member, this position is not a job, but a service position that will provide a living allowance for completing service term hours.  Members will commit their time to serving their community while receiving a stipend bi-monthly and the opportunity to receive an education award upon completion of service term.
 
Clubhouse Location(s): Northern Area (Millvale), Carnegie, Scott Primary, Downtown and McKeesport the CLUB Teen Centers
Fall Service Terms: November 6th - May 22nd or December 4th - May 22nd
Summer Service Term: May 27th, 2026 - August 14th, 2026
Reports to: AmeriCorps Program Coordinator & Site Supervisor
Stipend: Bi-monthly living allowance (amount differs between cohorts)
Hours: Members select the choice below; weekly hours vary
